2022 trends in the Architectural Industry for home designs

The Architectural industry has seen a considerable number of changes and advanced technologies over recent years that have impacted design trends and the construction industry. 2022 is set to be no different as we begin to welcome the normalcy of intelligent homes, get back to minimalist basics with industrial style living and look at the option of using our rooms for multi-purpose living.

This month, RWA Consulting take a look at the major trends the architectural industry will see in 2022 and where you can go to get all the qualified structural advice and guidance you need if you are embarking on a home project for 2022.

The future of smart homes in the architectural industry

We are all aware of the move towards smarter living and automated modern homes, which will most definitely impact the architectural industry in 2022. Homeowners are looking for automated systems within their homes that make living easier. Through temperature control, home security systems and lighting, automation will be a part of the way houses are designed and built in 2022. Smart home devices are already prevalent in high street stores with our Alexa and google devices, Ring doorbells and assistive technology that lets us control our home from an app on our phones.

Domestic architectural projects will see this trend move into the way homes and buildings are designed, with a view to offering more comfort and, of course, trying to reduce those ever-increasing energy bills. Architecture and Design companies are gearing up to use the latest in technology and economic materials to create a home that is just as smart as its owners.

Industrial styling and multi-purpose spacing

Minimalism has started to creep into our homes this year, particularly as many of us have had to use our existing place to work in as well as live in. Clutter does nothing for our health or brains, and this concept has now extended to the build of our homes as well. In 2022, we are likely to see minimalist designs that incorporate multi-purpose living, with simple layouts in an urban design format to boost the feel of spaciousness without having to pay exorbitant rates for a large home.

Dividing walls, rather than its breezeblock counterparts, will see an increase in multi-purpose living that can define the structure of our homes. Need a kitchen space but want more room when family come to visit? Consider a dividing wall that can be moved to create an open-plan space. Those who work from home and will do in the future are looking at a creative design that could see an ideal office space turned into an entertainment area during the weekends.

Building materials that promote light and wellbeing, as well as a sustainable future, will be in high demand as we step into 2022. More and more, we are becoming aware of the role we play within the environment and how we can make environmentally conscious decisions that protect and promote the outside world around us. The use of sustainable materials is set to be a leading design trend in 2022. With the building sector responsible for about 39% of process-related CO2 emissions, architects and contractors are starting to put the environment on their priority list.

Less noise and more light is a popular architectural industry trend

No matter where we go, noise is a constant factor within our lives. Noise is a pollutant, and next year, we will see a rise in the use of materials that aims to reduce noise pollution within our homes. As we are surrounded by noise whilst we are out in the community, at work or commuting, our homes should be a tranquil place where we can come to relax and unwind after a stressful day.

Architectural technology is currently in development with natural light in mind. Buildings will soon be able to take full advantage of this to lower energy bills (such as solar power systems) and let in as much natural light as possible for our health and wellbeing. So many of us want to bring the outside into our homes, and next year could see a vast increase in the beautiful floor to ceiling windows to let in the natural light and create the illusion of a fluid space that travels into the garden. Natural light can bring so many benefits to our health and homes, and advanced technologies can ensure we are not exposing ourselves or our furniture to too much sunlight that could be damaging.
